Friday’s With The Style Boro

The Style Boro 1

Happy Friday all! To celebrate this first beautiful weekend in October read on for a fabulous interview with Brooklyn’s own Aileen Olmedo, the author and fashionista behind The Style Boro. As Brooklyn residents ourselves, all of us at the DNA Footwear blog love reading about the goings on in the neighborhood and finding new spots to check out. Aileen was wonderful to pass along some local tips and share with us some of her own fashion inspiration. Read on for more!

Can you give us a little description of The Style Boro?

The Style Boro is a blog that focuses on my personal style while exploring NYC’s culture and the hidden gems in it. There you’ll find things to do across all five boroughs and a heavy dose of outfit inspiration.

Where did the inspiration for the blog come from?

I’ve always been one to document my life through photographs and journaling. It sort of came naturally to just web-log the happenings in my life. But, it was only after my stint at StreetCarnage.com that I consciously started to create posts people would want to read. Thankfully, I stopped documenting horrible date stories and started to focus more on fashion.

What has been the best moment for you in your blogging career?

To be honest, it’s being recognized by my readers in the street or receiving their sweet emails. They make my late nights and early mornings so worth it – basically knowing that my mom isn’t the only person reading my website is pretty awesome.

Tell me about your favorite pair of shoes!

Sneakers and boots FTW, always. These Manrepeller x Superga blush kicks remind me of ballerina slippers. They can dress up or downplay my fall favorite looks, and for that I am a huge fan.

And your dream pair of shoes?

I know I’ve made it when I can afford a pair of Jimmy Choo boots. They’re blue suede, super dreamy, and by all accounts Style Boro approved. But for now, these Shellys London Lovenia blue suede boots are more than perfect!

What’s the best local spot in your neighborhood?

You can always find me in Prospect Park, but for food I highly recommend the Blue Bird cafe (504 Flatbush Avenue). It’s a new spot with a backyard grill and the best pie this side of town.
