Originally released in the 70’s the Iconic Mountain Light Cascade Boot, better known now as the Wild Danner Boot, is widely considered by many to be the greatest backpacking boot of all time. Produced by Danner in their Portland Oregon factory, the legendary boot has put together a serious comeback campaign thanks in part to its appearance on the cover of Cheryl Strayed’s New York times bestseller (and soon to be major motion picture), Wild.
Built to take a serious beating, the boot makes use of a rich, full-grain leather upper paired with flat red laces housed a top a rugged Vibram Kletterlift outsole. Outside of the impressive construction, the Danner pays homage to Cheryl Strayed and her Pacific Crest Trail adventure by packaging the 40+ year old boot in a vintage-styled Danner box, an exact replica of the type of box used in 1995, the same year Cheryl got her start. Adding the finishing touches to an already incredible boot is a sew-on patch that features an image of Oregon’s Mt.Hood and the Pacific Trail 2,096 mile marker are applied to the upper. Watch the video below for a special behind the scenes look at the making of the Danner Mountain Light Cascade Boot and hear Reese Witherspoon, who will playing author Cheryl Strayed, in the upcoming December release movie.
