This past week, we celebrated emerging and amazing talent in art, innovation, film and music in Brooklyn for Northside Festival. It was nice to start Summer off by hanging out in our hometown stomping grounds to discover new talent. We learned about new trends in innovation, listened to a ton of innovators who are shaking up the tech and fashion industries. My personal favorite moment was listening to Into The Gloss founder, Emily Weiss. After writing the beauty blog Into The Gloss (one of my favorite sites), she created her own product line, Glossier. She was joined by Andy Dunn, CEO of Bonobos. Their discussion revolved around how the technology from her blog created the beauty line. Emily dropped some meme worthy lines and shared her favorite quotes, rightfully from Instagram.
Another great moment from the week-long event, was seeing Bedford Avenue get transformed into a chill hangout spot. Space Ninety8 shut down Bedford Ave with their musical sets from multiple rock bands. To close out Northside Festival, everyone headed over to 50 Kent, home of the Brooklyn Flea, to see music sets from Vince Staples, Sleigh Bells, and Run the Jewels. The performances were all amazing, but the best moment was seeing Nas surprise the entire audience during Run the Jewels’ set to rap Made You Look together. It seemed like all of Brooklyn was there to celebrate music and the start of a Brooklyn summer. What was your favorite moment? Let us know in the comments!
