Here at DNA Footwear, we’re all about good vibes and feeling good within so to celebrate Summer Solstice, the day that receives that most light than any other day and the official start of Summer, I attended my very first Summer Solstice Dance Party. My night consisted of Kundalini yoga and meditation by Paramatma Siri Sadhana, music by Jarrod Mayer who played a HandPan and a dance party with music by DNA Footwear’s resident DJ, k¥mÅ.
When I arrived to the super chill rooftop at Golden Light Yoga in Greenpoint, I was greeted with hugs from a lovely group of Yogis. The evening started off with rounds of delicious, probably organic, fruit followed by music on a HandPan. I’ve never seen a HandPan before, but I was familiar with its sounds: waterlike, relaxing echos and perfect for yoga. After a few solos by Jarrod and fellow attendees, we began our meditation into yoga. I’ve taken Yoga before, but this was nothing like what I’m used to. Kundalini yoga is the “yoga of awareness”; “Kundalini Yoga consists of active and passive asana-based kriyas, pranayama, and meditation which target the whole body system to develop awareness, consciousness and spiritual strength.” —Yogi Bhajan. It was a great exercise to refresh my energy, especially for the start of a new season. We ended the session by sharing 100 gratitudes. I highly recommend everyone to do this at least once in a while to stay centered and regain focus, which is easy slack on in this city. K¥mÅ initiated the dance party that ensued afterwards. All in all, it was a great way to welcome Summer.
