Yep, it’s almost sandal season….Does the winter-y weather tend to dry out your feet? Do you spend most of your days on your feet – walking from meeting to meeting or chasing after the subway and/or the kids? Wherever you are and whatever you do, chances are your feet need some extra love around this time of year. To get your feet in tip top shape for Spring style I’ve mixed up a batch of this DIY sugar foot scrub to keep soles refreshed and moisturized into open-toe//peep-toe & sandal season.
Super simple: 3 ingredient recipe that will nourish yours soles (they definitely deserve it!)
- Prep time – about 3 mins
- Mix time – about 2 mins
So we’re talking 5 minutes to sweeter feet. [You can easily make this in bulk if you’d like or make for/with friends] Ingredients pictured above:
- Recycled glass jar
- 1/3 cup Organic Turbinado Sugar
(any sort of sugar will do but keep in mind that the coarser granules will give a deeper exfoliation)
- 1/4 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
(I usually prefer coconut oil because of the smell but I was working with what I had in my cupboard)
- 20 drops of Essential Oil
(personal preference; for this batch I used a combination for deep muscle relief mixing Wintergreen, Peppermint, Chamomile, Blue Eucalyptus and Camphor oils together for a minty-fresh effect)
Combine all ingredients into a mixing bowl. (My assistant, Diesel, helped me with this part…)
Stir until the sugar is saturated with the oil and the aroma is to your liking. Then store in your recycled glass jar.
Get creative and give your feet a treat. Check out the pins that inspired me for this project here. Below are the healing properties for the oils I used. There are so many oils you can choose from to get creative with your own custom combo. Lavender is great for stress relief; Lemongrass for a zesty uplifting effect etc.
Here are just a few of the health benefits for the essential oils I’ve used. Research which are best for your mind, body and soles.
Essential Oil Benefits:
- Soothes discomfort in the muscles and joints
- Promotes healthy respiratory function
*** Wintergreen is not recommended for pregnant women, small children, anyone with a history of seizures or anyone with aspirin sensitivities.
- Blood circulation
- Stress Relief
- Nausea and Headache relief
- Calming to the skin
- Calming to the mind
- Pain relieving
- Balancing effect on Yin/Yang energies
