Recycle your shoes, find a solemate, save the planet & your money….A Step in the Right Direction for Fundraising
DNA Footwear, in partnership with Community Recycling introduced a shoe-recycling fundraiser that promises ease and engagement for all involved. Community Recycling’s ShoeBox Recycling program recycles gently used shoes for reuse. DNA Footwear is collecting shoes at Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Cobble Hill locations to find your gently worn shoes new owners around the world. From South America and Africa to areas right here in the United States, the recycled shoes will go to help people and communities in over 50 countries.
Through ShoeBox Recycling’s SoleMate Note initiative, Recyclers are urged to include a “SoleMate” note along with their recycled shoes telling their shoes’ new owner where they came from, what they were used for, or even any special memories attached to them. In return, the recipient can write back to complete the SoleMate connection.
“We are stoked to become a part of this meaningful fundraising program that encourages our shoppers to take local action to support a larger global movement.” ~ said Amy Kynoch, Brand and Community Outreach Coordinator.
“In addition to the social and environmental impact of our recycling efforts, we will be raising funds to support Dress for Success, a local nonprofit empowering women in the work place and in life.
Community Recycling is proud to be a for-profit recycler of shoes. They have flipped the recycling triangle upside down and have mastered the most powerful ‘R’—REUSE. With over 300 million pairs of reusable shoes hitting landfills each year, they are looking to change the way people think about their shoes.
“We want shoe recycling to become habit forming, engaging and rewarding for everyone involved,” said Community Recycling president, Ira Baseman. “Our partnership with DNA Footwear is a great way to get that message out. ShoeBox Recycling not only helps people around the world but also works to inspire a new generation of recyclers right here in our own communities.”
THE SOLEMATE CONNECTION:
ShoeBox Recycling also gives us a chance to connect with the people and places that receive our recycled shoes. By writing a SoleMate Note to include with your shoes, you can let their new owner know about where they came from, what they were used for, or even any special memories attached to them. In return, they can write back to us and we can make a SoleMate connection.
